Advances in hydrotreating catalyst technologies for enhanced refinery sustainability

Leveraging productivity and efficiency of hydrotreating units is key to increase sustainability and profitability of refinery operation. Deployment of newer high active catalysts would be the differentiator as it will enable cost-effectiveness and higher activity, operation at lower temperature and effective processability of heavier feedstocks. Over the years, IndianOil has deployed high-performance diesel hydrotreating catalysts with tailored characteristics for hetero atom removal and hydrogenation of aromatics and olefins to meet the fuel specifications.

Advanced Biorefineries: Assessing Opportunities, Risks, Rewards, & Viabilities

Becht has done multiple feasibility and due diligence studies for clients across the globe, facilitating their greenfield and highly integrated brownfield bio-refineries while being conceptualized in the boardroom or when in more mature stage of project execution (pre-feasibility, feasibility, FEED, EPCM stages). For these advance bio-refinery projects, Becht is working with multiple licensors licensing highly flexible feed-stock agnostic technologies based on different pathways capable of converting a wide range of fats, oils and greases for production of 2nd generation advance biofuels (HVO, SAF, bio-propane, bio-naphtha) from commercially proven processes.

2nd Generation Ethanol : Engineering design and implementation

Ethanol, when blended with petrol, reduces India’s oil import burden, stubble-burning and air pollution. Technip Energies is executing a 2G ethanol project for an Indian refinery major, using crop waste as feedstock to manufacture 99.5% v/v ethanol. This presentation highlights major design and engineering aspects with challenges and remedial measures.

Insight into design of catalyst for direct conversion of CO2 to methanol

The presentation focuses on indigenous catalyst development for direct hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol. The design of catalyst for improving product selectivity while suppressing unwanted side products would be given major focus. Also, benefits of this catalyst in terms of CO2 conversion and overall methanol yields will be discussed.

-
Digital Twins – Multiple applications across planning and operations

The Indian Refineries are in the process of implementing Digital Twins across the Refinery Process Units. The important aspect is how these Digital Twins are applied for various applications. Most of the time visualization of the KPI and Benchmark parameters serves as a primary purpose on a real-time basis. We find greater value by integrating the Digital Twins with Supply Chain, Process Optimization, Energy Optimization and Process Control applications of RTO and APC controls thereby targeting the Emission Reductions alongside Profit Improvements.

SESSION VII: BIO-FUELS & PLASTICS CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Chairman: Mr. S. Bharathan, Director (Refineries), HPCL

-
Refinery Co- processing for bio-fuels using Hydrotreater

Colombia and the world, biofuels have been implemented in a massive way in countries like Brazil, the US and India, among others. Biofuels (Biodiesel - FAME, Renewable Diesel - HVO, Renewable Jet -SAF) are gaining more and more strength with the development of technologies from first, second and third generation raw materials. This force is associated with the race against the clock of contribute to the energy transition and decarbonization in different industries such as aeronautics. Seeking the reduction of greenhouse gases and for the benefits of improvement in fuel quality for the final consumer, they are being evaluated and requested in the market to be more constant and with greater volumes, by dedicated plant technologies or co-processing, then the question arises: are the countries and their government entities prepared to assume these challenges and generate a balanced economy between: Prices, availability of raw materials, demand for biofuels, engine performance and lower greenhouse gas emissions? In this sense, Ecopetrol works in order to generate biofuels with balance and SosTECnibility®, therefore, we want to share the experience of the company's progress in biofuels, including presenting the results of the HVO pilot test performed in October 2022 in HDT unity.”
